Still not sure what to get your pooch for Christmas this year? Left it till the last minute but feeling very uninspired? Involving our dogs in our Christmas celebrations can help to strengthen our bond with them, making them feel even more like they are part of the family, and let’s not forget to mention – the majority of dogs love ripping paper to shreds so will definitely love opening their Christmas presents. Here are our top five present ideas for your pup!
1. A new collar and lead
What’s the saying? A pooch can never have too many accessories? I’m sure that’s right… Ha! Treating your dog to a new collar and/or lead for Christmas will ensure they are looking smart and ready to take on 2021! The range of collars and leads that are available for us to buy has never been as varied, smart, and stylish, so measure your pooch’s neck and find them a practical accessory for one of their Christmas gifts this year.
2. Natural dog treats
What could be better for our dogs than treats and natural ones at that! Natural treats have increased in popularity in recent years, with more of us than ever choosing to only give our dogs treats that are 100% natural. While it may feel a bit daunting at first, and not always for the faint-hearted among us, your dog will love nothing more than to munch on a hairy rabbit ear, bulls pizzle, pig’s snout or even lamb trotters! The benefits of these treats more than outweigh the smell and look of them. Hairy treats are a natural de-wormer, and you can be completely sure you aren’t putting any dangerous chemicals or toxins into your dog’s body.
3. A Puzzle toy
If your dog likes to use their nose (as the majority of them do!) then a puzzle toy could be the ideal Christmas present for them. There are so many different ones to choose from, but most have the same idea, your pooch has to use their nose to sniff out tasty treats that are hidden in some way. We personally have one that your dog has to use their nose to move blocks to reveal the treats that are hidden underneath – and the dogs love it! Using their nose and brain will help to tire them out quickly also – so winner for both owner and dog!
4. A Clip-on light or LED collar
If you often find yourself walking your dog in the dark you might be wondering how best to help both yourself and your dog to be seen. Rechargeable LED collars are a brilliant way for your pooch to be seen in the dark, as they come in a number of bright colours and also the majority have a couple of different settings, both solid light or flashing. You can also buy small lights that clip onto your dog’s harness or collar and have the same effect. I’m pretty sure you can get high vis jackets for your dogs too…the choice is yours!
5. A dog activity tracker
Relatively new to the doggy market – have you ever considered getting an activity tracker for your dog? If your dog is prone to carrying a few extra pounds (and let's face it – who isn’t after the year we’ve had!) an activity monitor could be a great way for you to monitor how much exercise your dog is actually getting and will allow you to increase or decrease it as necessary. These trackers simply attach to your dog’s collar and connect to an app on your phone, so it’s super easy to keep track of! Some of these trackers also have built-in GPS, which is perfect if your dog is prone to straying on a walk or to help locate them if they ever go missing.
Hopefully, our guide will help if you’ve been a bit lost as to what to get your pooch for Christmas. All of these items should be available in your local pet stores, so you won’t be worrying about them getting lost in the post or not arriving in time for the big day! Don’t forget to enjoy this Christmas with your furry four-legged friends.
